Drunk or Stoned: How Does It Affect Sex?

A seriously awesome sex study has (finally) studied the effects of drinking and smoking pot while getting it on. The study was conducted by researchers at New York University. The project studied 24 adults who had sex while either drunk or stoned.

The study, led by researcher Joseph Palamar, was called “A qualitative investigation comparing psychosocial and physical sexual experiences related to alcohol and marijuana use among adults.” The results of the study concluded that having sex while drunk had way worse consequences than having sex while stoned.

According to The Washington Post, “the “beer goggles” effect of alcohol did really lead to people sleeping with substandard partners and strangers, while being high on marijuana did not.” Other results found that “drunk sex commonly lead to feelings of post sex regret, shame, and embarrassment after the act, while high sex did not.” (If you want to keep from embarrassing yourself or doing the “walk of shame” the next day, keep it to a two-drink maximum.)

Also, “Drunk sex is more likely to make you feel nausea, dizziness, and sick versus high sex, which can make people feel distracted.” (Being high and a bit distracted is much better than puking on someone you’re trying to have sex with.)

The study concluded that “Drunk sex is riskier overall due to poor judgment while drunk, whereas people high on marijuana felt more in control.”

But here’s the best news from the study for sexpots everywhere: “Pleasurable sensations during drunk sex are often numbed, while pleasurable sensations during high sex are often enhanced—including more intense orgasms while high on marijuana.”
