The “Greatest Adult Stars of All Time” Documentary Traces The History Of Porn Stars

The Greatest Adult Stars of All Time is an “oral history” of the porn stars who who became famous in the adult industry. The documentary, which also chronicles the fascinating history of porn, is now available for streaming and on DVD.

From “the golden age of adult cinema” as it was called in the late 1960’s-80’s, to the present day, the film interviews the biggest porn stars from the past 50 years. The documentary, produced by AVN founder Paul Fishbein, managed to attract most of the major porn stars in existence. The film begins with the industry’s female stars, such as one of the earliest stars, Seka, who was active from 1977-1993. During this time, the movies debuted in drive-ins as well as actual movie theaters. (This is when sex in cars suddenly became more popular, and when the historic “punch a hole at the bottom of the popcorn bucket hand job at the movies” trend started.)

The movie is an entertaining hour & a half of porn stars galore, dishing on what life was like back in the day, when a life in porn, a la Boogie Nights, was good. The DVD is a fun film for a couple to watch on a date, or to give as a a gift. The movie is also filled with fun facts, such as the fact that Johnny “Wadd” Holmes had a 14-inch penis, referred to by his co-stars and directors as a “monster.”

The film also reveals that “the average life of a porn star is less than two years.” With that in mind, says Tera Patrick (active 1999-2009),”Ten years is a long time to be in porn.” (Today, you’re a MILF at age 25.) Yet several old school porn stars remained in the spotlight for years, including Nina Hartley, as well as Christy Canyon and Ginger Lynn, who have radio shows, and the notorious Ron Jeremy, who Hollywood director Adam Rifkin jokes is still dying to get cast in a Hollywood movie.

Also making an appearance is Jenna Jameson, Jessica Drake, Sasha Grey, Belladonna, Marilyn Chambers, Jamie Gillis, Skin Diamond, Misty Stone, Rocco Siffredi, John C. Holmes (from an earlier interview), Nina Hartley, Asa Akira, Lexington Steele, and married porn stars Mick Blue and Anikka Albrite. There are also appearances by Whoopi Goldberg, rocker Rob Zombie, and mainstream film director Steven Soderbergh, who says “The time in which you might be stigmatized by casting someone from the adult film industry is gone.”

Italian stud Rocco Siffredi, who had one of the longest careers in international porn from 1993-2015, says “You don’t fuck a woman with your dick, you fuck a woman with your brain.” Now there’s a sex tip.

The movie, which premiered on Showtime, is available for streaming on Amazon, iTunes, Comcast, Verizon, Playstation, Vudu, YouTube, Dish Network, and a bunch of others. “The film goes beyond the headlines and sensationalism and into the actual lives of the very people who built the adult industry and influenced a significant segment of American culture,” says Fishbein.
